AJ Goyal, a U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and founder of Ascent Tax & Advisory, will speak at two events in India in November 2026. The sessions will focus on overseas investments, U.S.–India taxation and the reporting duties that may arise when individuals and businesses hold financial interests across borders.

Organised by Growwik Media, the events are scheduled for Ahmedabad on November 21 and Bengaluru on November 28. The programme is intended for Chartered Accountants (CAs), investors, entrepreneurs, business owners and finance professionals.

The roadshow, titled Build Wealth Beyond India: U.S. Investing, Cross-Border Taxation and Global Opportunities, will address the practical steps involved in investing overseas. It will also cover the financial and regulatory questions that investors may need to consider before transferring funds or buying foreign assets.

From Corporate Accounting to Cross-Border Tax Advisory

Goyal has more than 20 years of professional experience in accounting, corporate finance, real estate and international tax advisory. His career includes work at Ernst & Young (EY), Pulte Homes/PulteGroup and Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).

He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and completed an MBA through the University of Illinois’ Chicago campus. His earlier work covered financial statement audits, internal controls, accounting analysis, corporate finance and real estate-related financial matters.

He later established Ascent Tax & Advisory, where his work focuses on individuals and businesses with U.S. tax obligations or financial interests in more than one country.

The firm’s practice areas include U.S. individual and business tax filings, LLC and corporate structuring, foreign tax credits, tax treaty analysis, Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) reporting and tax matters linked to real estate investments.

This professional background forms the basis of the planned discussions on overseas investment and international tax compliance.

Understanding U.S. Stocks, ETFs and Bonds

Investing outside India can give investors access to markets and asset classes that may not be available through their domestic portfolios. The roadshow will cover U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and bonds, along with factors that investors should assess when considering these options.

Each asset class has its own risks. Stock prices can fall, bond values can change with interest rates and credit conditions, and ETFs vary according to the assets they hold. Fees, taxes and investment periods can also affect the final outcome.

Currency movements add another factor for Indian investors. When an overseas investment is valued in U.S. dollars, changes in the rupee-dollar exchange rate can affect its value when converted into rupees.

The sessions will discuss these issues as part of investment planning. Historical currency trends and past market returns cannot guarantee future results.

LRS Rules and Overseas Money Transfers

The process of sending money from India to another country is another planned topic. Participants will receive an introduction to the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), which allows eligible resident individuals to make permitted foreign remittances within the applicable rules.

The discussions will cover banking procedures, brokerage accounts, supporting documents and transaction records. They will also address the steps involved in bringing investment proceeds back to India.

The rules can vary according to the purpose of a transfer, an individual’s residential status and the regulations in force. Investors should confirm the current requirements with their banks and qualified advisers before transferring funds.

Keeping clear records of deposits, purchases, sales, dividends and withdrawals can also help investors track their portfolios and prepare the required tax documents.

Tax Duties for Investors With Overseas Assets

Tax compliance will be a central subject at both events. Holding foreign investments may create reporting duties in India, the United States or both, depending on the investor’s circumstances.

The planned discussions will include U.S. dividend withholding, Form W-8BEN, applicable tax treaty provisions, foreign tax credits, capital gains and Indian foreign-asset disclosures.

The programme will also cover PFIC rules under U.S. tax law. Certain foreign investment funds may fall within this category, which can affect the tax treatment and reporting duties of U.S. taxpayers who hold them.

Participants will be introduced to the role of foreign tax credits, where eligible, and the conditions that may apply when accounting for taxes paid in another country.

The sessions will also address international business structures and related reporting duties. The tax treatment of a company or investment can depend on its legal structure, ownership and the laws that apply to the people involved.

Role of Chartered Accountants in International Tax Matters

Indian Chartered Accountants and financial advisers may encounter clients who invest overseas, operate businesses across borders or have U.S. filing obligations. Understanding the nature of these matters can help advisers identify when additional specialist support is needed.

The roadshow will discuss coordination between Indian advisers and qualified U.S. tax professionals. Such coordination can be relevant when a client’s financial affairs involve different tax systems, foreign reporting requirements or international ownership structures.

The sessions will also address the need for accurate records and timely reporting. Requirements differ by case, so advisers must assess each client’s circumstances rather than assume that one approach applies to every investor.

Two Events Scheduled for November 2026

The Ahmedabad event will take place on November 21, followed by the Bengaluru event on November 28. AJ Goyal, CPA, will be the featured speaker, and Growwik Media will serve as the organiser.

The programme will bring together discussions on investment choices, currency exposure, remittance procedures and cross-border tax reporting. It is designed for professionals and investors seeking a general understanding of the issues involved in holding and managing overseas assets.
